CHELSEA SCHOOL DISTRICT PERFORMING ARTS FACILITIES

Welcome to Chelsea!

Chelsea is a charming community located 15 miles west of Ann Arbor, and 60 miles from downtown Detroit.  Home to The Purple Rose Theatre Company and Jiffy Baking Mix, Chelsea is a very friendly, diverse, community, with strong ties to the performing arts.

Chelsea High School, located just east of downtown, was ranked 26th out of 873 of the top Michigan high schools in 2014. The Chelsea School District houses two performing arts facilities and a more modest performance space at the Beach Middle School. The large Chelsea High School Auditorium, built in 1998, is a state of the art facility, which boasts a 27 line counterweight fly system, Wenger Diva acoustical shell, large 54' wide stage, and seats 842 on two levels. The smaller, George Prinzing Auditorium, was built in 1958, and is located in the Washington Street Education Center, across from the High School. This is a moderate sized theatre, with an intimate feel, which seats 543 on one level. The Beach Middle School Cafetorium is a combination cafeteria/auditorium space, well suited to much smaller scale productions, with the ability to have a varying size and layout of  seating arrangements.

The Chelsea High School Auditorium has strong, hot, acoustics, perfect for live music performances. The George Prinzing Auditorium has more subdued acoustics, making it ideal for speaking events, such as plays and lectures, yet it is still well suited for music performances.

Both theatres and the cafetorium are available for rent at competitive rates.
